Gujarati folk dances Dandiya and Garba are lively and vivacious, with a strong cultural and traditional foundation in India. As a way to show devotion to the goddess Durga, these dances are done during the nine-day Hindu festival of Navratri. Participants in garba usually dance elegantly in circles around a center lamp or idol that represents Shakti, the divine feminine spirit. The Sanskrit term Garbha Deep, which describes a clay lamp with an inner light that symbolizes life and creation, is where the word "Garba" originates. Dandiya, on the other hand, is more rhythmic and is played using dandiyas, which are adorned wooden sticks. To the rhythm of contemporary remixes and traditional folk tunes, dancers perform in pairs, striking their sticks in synchronized patterns.
